Implantology: a better quality of life with dental implants

Just not so long ago, the patient's loss of teeth implied the inconvenience of having to carry a partial or total removable prosthesis. Such mobile prosthesis, besides representing a problem for the social relations aspect, often resulted uncomfortable from the functional and aesthetic point of view.
Presently, dental implants allow the replacement of missing teeth with fixed prosthesis that substitute almost perfectly natural teeth in terms of function and aesthetics. Dental implants correctly fitted by expert specialists obtain long term positive results in 90% of cases, much better than those obtainable through conventional bridges or mobile prosthesis. Implantology is the main specialisation of all our activities. Doctor Stasi is a pioneer implantologist ever since 1987, among the very first specialists in the field to operate in Rome. Since then he has successfully fitted over 2000 dental implants.

What is a dental implant?

The picture shows different types of implants: screw (submerged, transmucose, bicortical), needle, blade.

A dental implant is an artificial dental root made of a biocompatible material and implanted in the maxillary or jaw bone as a replacement for a lost tooth. Implants can be of the cylindrical or conical screw type, of various length and diameter, blade or needle type, of various shapes and measures to fit the quantity of bone available in the place of installation. There is no implant suitable for every mouth: that is, it is the mouth to be implanted that determines the choice of the implant type. Today all the implants are made of pure titanium, a metal of peculiar characteristics: it is so biocompatible that the bone "seeks" the direct contact with the metal surface. The incorporation of titanium into the bone is called osteointegration. There are several manufacturers of implants. Az-implant is the supplier of the implant system used in our surgery. How is a dental operation done?

Doctor Stasi 20 years experience, with his diagnostic and operative equipment, the immediate availability of all size and type of implants, enable him to plan and perform the operation and position the temporary teeth in one session. This procedure, shortens the implants necessary time and fulfils the always more increasing compatibility demand of prosthesis methods and timing with the patient's normal everyday life relations. The application of an implant normally takes from 15 to 40 minutes and is executed under local anaesthesia. Often, neither suture stitches nor antibiotics therapy are needed; usually the patient does not experience any significant pain or post-operation oedema.
