The loss of all teeth meant, until a few years ago, the need of a total prosthesis (denture) which brought about the well known consequences: scarce stability of the prosthesis, specially in the jaw, reduced chewing strength, and food taste altered, sometimes vomit and phonetic problems. The pressure of the prosthetic base on the bone may, moreover, increase the atrophy of the latter, with consequent further deterioration of the prosthesis's stability. The collapse of the facial tissues (lips, cheeks) causes an "old person" look on the people carrying insufficient total prosthesys. With dental implants it is to-day possible to break this vicious circle. As few as 2-4 implants with spherical connections may be sufficient to give, as in the case shown below, a satisfactory stability.
